Bringing self-service ticketing to provide a simple cashless option


Quickly and easily – this is how rnv customers want to buy their tickets from the vending machines. The availability of a simple cashless option to pay for tickets was a vital success factor. At the same time, it was important to support all popular and local card types, such as GeldKarte, girocard, Maestro, V PAY and credit cards. Additionally, rnv underlined that security and sustainability were a key aspect of the technological choice in this investment project. Consequently, the requirements of the modernisation project also included built-in support for contactless payment options such as girogo.


Verifone partnered with Xerox Business Services, a solution provider for ticketing systems, to supply around 200 ticket machines across the transport region operated by rnv, with payment terminals that are compliant to the latest security standards. Xerox integrated Verifone’s modular UX Solutions self-service series, including the UX 100 PIN pad, UX 300 card reader/controller and the UX 400 contactless card reader. A significant advantage: as the mechanical interfaces are compatible, the UX terminal may be used in principle as a substitute for the previous Artema series by Verifone, without any extensive software updates required.

UX Solutions meets the requirements of a modern and sustainable ticketing machine – thanks to its cost-effectiveness, transaction security, low maintenance and optimum level of protection against vandalism. Accessibility has also been greatly improved: the user interface is optimised and leads the passenger through the program using clear visual and audio prompts.


200 Xerox ticket machines are now being equipped with modules from the UX Solutions series. The project has been running smoothly, with all project participants satisfied with the integration, modification and installation stages. The reason for this success is excellent cooperation between Xerox, Verifone and the network service provider.
